Moving past the niceties of introductions you inquire what my interests are. “I’m a gamer,” I reply casually. How do you respond? Do you think of me as childish? The word “gamer” has acquired a vile connotation in most people’s vernacular nowadays. I hate being embarrassed to associate myself with my passion.

Every so often, when I’m bored and find myself crawling through the Internet looking up music reviews, I end up on Pitchfork. Pitchfork doesn’t really cover the genres of music I typically listen to; however, sometimes I attempt to broaden my horizons and saunter over to their website to see how they feel about a particular album.
The other day I learned “The Counselor,” a movie I had no velleity to go see, was written by Cormac McCarthy. Not adapted from a work by McCarthy, the way “No Country for Old Men” was to great gravitas, or as some hope to do with “Blood Meridian.” This was an original screenplay, McCarthy’s first apparently.

There’s an old Japanese saying that translates roughly to: “Mario Kart Double Dash!!’ is the eighth wonder of the world.” I can’t attribute that prophetic claim to anyone specifically, but I’m assuming it was some revered Shogun. The phrase’s meaning is beyond dispute however; “Double Dash!!” will forever rule the “Mario Kart” roost.
