ICE began enforcement surge with list of 250 people, 163 could still be targets

It is not clear at this point if the remaining 167 people ICE did not arrest remain targets of a future raid, according to Ron Bohmer, a spokesperson for Rep Pocan. Bohmer said that it is unclear why ICE only arrested a third of the people on its list, and he wasn’t sure if that means those people are no longer in the state, or if another enforcement surge could be pending.


Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced the upcoming budget would include increases in funds for mental health programs and opioid overdose prevention.

Dane County boosts funds for mental health, opioid crisis in 2019 budget

Dane County’s 2019 budget will include extra funds aimed at improving the county’s response to mental health and opioid-related incidents. The annual budget, which will be released in full on Oct. 1, will contains the largest increase in funding for frontline mental health services in county history, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi said Thursday.

Student injured during gunfight near Lafollete High School

A gunfight near La Follette High School left one 17-year-old student injured and put the building on lockdown for the second time this week. Police responded to reports of a fight between several young men at the corner of Linda Vista Road and Turner Avenue around 10:40 a.m., Madison police said. Witnesses also told police at least one gun had been fired.


According to a recent survey of UW-Madison students, faculty and staff, over 8 in 10 support a 100 percent tobacco-free campus.

UW-Madison students, faculty support tobacco-free campus

Many UW-Madison students, faculty and staff are in support of a tobacco-free campus, according to a recent survey. A Tobacco-Free Columbia-Dane County Coalition survey distributed in October 2017, in partnership with Public Health Madison and Dane County and the UW-Madison SPARK organization, found that 81 percent of student respondents support the campus going tobacco-free.
