Osama's death proves U.S. exceptionalism

It was a Tuesday morning in September when everything began. It was a day that was to change America forever. Soon, parents would see their children off to war. Fathers would kiss their newborn daughters goodbye, and some for the last time as they went to levy justice on those who were responsible for murdering almost 3,000 Americans. For 10 years America paid a heavy price, as we sought to extinguish any further threat to our safety. Then came Abbottabad.

Dems' NBP stance vague, disappointing

Mike Mikalsen and I don't agree on much. Mikalsen, the research assistant and lead strategist for state Rep. Steve Nass, R-Whitewater, has played a central role in Nass' work as the main thorn in the side of UW-Madison. So as I spoke with Mikalsen over the phone last week concerning the proposed New Badger Partnership, it was no surprise that I disagreed with much of what he said.

Syrian conflict deserves international attention

Following a revolution like the Arab spring is difficult. The major conflicts, from a media coverage perspective, seem to be coming in large waves. Tunisia gave birth to the revolution, whose influence made its way toward Egypt and the ousting of President Hosni Mubarak. The global conversation then switched over to the pending conflict in Yemen for only a brief time before eventually switching over to Libya. The recent protests in Syria, though similar in spirit to other mid-size revolts, are actually a game-changer that initiates a whole new chapter in the Arab Spring.
