After 6-0 demolition of Hofstra, Badgers face the No. 1 seed Stanford in Sweet 16

The Wisconsin Badgers women’s soccer team (6-2-3 Big Ten, 14-3-4 overall) looked to be heating up after a 3-0 win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament over the AAC conference champion Memphis Tigers (7-2 AAC, 17-4 overall). The Badgers officially caught fire in the second round as they demolished the CAA conference champion Hofstra Pride (6-2-1 CAA, 16-6-1 overall) with a stunning final score of 6-0.

Senior forward Marsha Howard recently became the seventh Wisconsin player to record 1,000 career points, and will finish her career at the Kohl Center Thursday night against Ohio State.

Wisconsin beats NDSU 64-53 despite shaky start

The Wisconsin Badgers (3-0) got off to a shaky start during Saturday’s matchup against the North Dakota State (2-2) Bison, but they still were able to seal a 64-53 victory. The Badgers won the tip, but redshirt senior guard Kelly Karlis missed an easy layup to start the game.

Lead by Australian standouts Morgan McDonald (815) and Olli Hoare (813), Wisconsin is seeking a podium spot and potentially more on Saturday.

After down years, Wisconsin men looking to make their mark on program history at home

It’s all been leading up to this. From the moment it was announced in April 2017 that Madison would host the NCAA Division 1 Cross Country National Championships.

After finishing just 139th at nationals last year while hampered by low iron levels, junior Alicia Monson is a top contender for the individual title on her home course in 2018.

A year ago, Alicia Monson struggled to a 139th-place finish at the NCAA Division 1 Cross Country National Championships. It was a result that didn’t match up with what her training or her race results had suggested she was capable of, due largely to low iron levels that had sapped her ability to reach her peak performance.

Sophomore forward Lauren Rice was able to strike a perfect shot two minutes into overtime to give the Badgers a win.

Wisconsin faces NCAA Tournament test against a strong Hofstra attack

Poor performance from O-line, quarterback overshadow team effort in loss to Penn State

As any good coach will tell you, football is a team game. That means it’s a weakest link game, where poor performance from one play or positional group can cancel out all the good done by the rest. That’s exactly what happened Saturday in State College, as an uncharacteristically bad game by the offensive line and sophomore quarterback Jack Coan’s struggles produced a passing offense that gave Wisconsin no shot in what turned out to be a winnable game against Penn State.

Forward Alex Illikainen announced his departure from the program Monday, leaving Wisconsin with just three healthy players 6'6" or taller.

The Badgers (1-0 overall) started the season strong at home with a 76-41 win over the Winthrop Eagles, and they look to continue their success when they hit the road to take on the UW-Milwaukee Panthers (0-1) on Tuesday. Senior forward Marsha Howard was one of three Badgers with a double-double for Wisconsin as she got 18 points and 14 rebounds against the Eagles.

Senior middle blocker Tionna Williams hit .636 percent with seven kills as the Badgers swept the Green Bay Phoenix to advanced to the next round of the NCAA Tournament.

If No. 13 Purdue was a tough challenge for the No. 8 Wisconsin (11-5 Big Ten, 18-6) Badgers, the Indiana Hoosiers (6-10 Big Ten, 15-12 overall) seemed like an open-note quiz on Senior Night at the UW Field House Saturday.

Sophomore defenseman Josh Ess scored the game-winning goal in the third period after Wisconsin's defense kept it in the game during a penalty kill.

Defense holds strong as Wisconsin comes back to beat Minnesota 3-1

According to the official record, Saturday night’s game winner came 10 minutes and 20 seconds into the third period, when sophomore defenseman Josh Ess ripped a shot from the left point over Minnesota goaltender Eric Schierhorn’s shoulder to put Wisconsin up 2-1. Ess’s shot was nearly perfect, and it did provide the the winning margin, but the real game-changing moment came 40 minutes earlier, when the Badgers bounced back from an early goal on a five-minute penalty kill and locked down the Minnesota offense.

Despite a big game for sophomore Jonathan Taylor, the Badgers fell to Penn State 22-10.

Freshman forward Andrew Akindele and the rest of the Badgers were held scoreless in their 1-0 semifinal loss against Michigan.
