Illinois looking to climb out of Big Ten cellar with strong running, secondary

After a devastating blow of 38-13 from Michigan last weekend, Wisconsin looks to recover with a win as they prepare to face Illinois at home. The Badgers will host Illinois during homecoming weekend. In a similar manner, however, Illinois will also be entering this matchup coming off a significant loss of 46-7 against Purdue. Although the Fighting Illini are now 3-3, they still have the potential to battle with the Badgers.

Senior forward Annie Pankowski moved from right wing to center — after losing Emily Clark to an injury — and responded with three points in two games last weekend.

Without top center Clark, Badgers stepping into new roles as they host Princeton

It’s not often that Wisconsin head coach Mark Johnson faces a team for the first time. With more than 15 years of experience in the head job — and fewer than 40 women’s Division 1 teams — Johnson has the luxury of knowing most of the programs he faces inside and out. But that advantage won’t be present this weekend, as Wisconsin’s No. 2-ranked women’s hockey team (2-0-0 WCHA, 6-0-0 overall) welcomes the Princeton Tigers (0-0-0 ECAC, 0-0-0 overall) to Madison.

Despite playing substantially fewer minutes than her fellow forwards, senior Emily Borgmann sits second on the team with four goals.

Late Spark: Borgmann embracing challenges of super-sub role in standout senior season

The No. 19 Wisconsin Badgers women’s soccer team (5-1-3 Big Ten, 11-2-3 overall) has once again qualified for the Big Ten tournament and has plans of qualifying for the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive season. Maybe it’s just a case of being a year older and wiser, but there is one more factor to Wisconsin’s elevated play this season: super-sub senior forward Emily Borgmann.

Junior quarterback Alex Hornibrook struggled against Michigan, throwing two interceptions during a 38-13 loss.

Badgers struggle to do anything right in road loss to Michigan

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN — “They’re a good team, so if we’re going to move the ball and be successful we gotta be on, we gotta be doing things well, and I don’t think we were today, so that’s why we didn’t have success,” junior quarterback Alex Hornibrook said. On Saturday night, Hornibrook and the Wisconsin Badgers (2-1 Big Ten, 4-2 Overall) didn’t do anything well, and certainly weren’t on, as they lost to the Michigan Wolverines (4-0, 6-1) 38-13.

Michigan sends back the Badgers with an ugly 38-13 loss

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Before the kickoff, the energy around the “Big House” was palpable as Michigan fans and Wisconsin fans knew the significance of this game touted as a College Football Playoff elimination game between the No. 12 Michigan Wolverines and the No. 15 Wisconsin Badgers.

Junior goaltender Jack Berry produced one of his best performances of the season in his first action in over a month, but it wasn't enough for the Badgers to come out with a win against Denver.

Freshmen lead the way as new-look Wisconsin takes down No. 10 Boston College 3-0 in season opener

Nearly two years ago to the day, head coach Tony Granato made his home coaching debut against a top-10 Boston College team and left with a statement win. The same script played out again Friday night as an unranked Badger squad (0-0-0 Big Ten, 1-0-0 overall) welcomed the No. 10 Eagles (0-0-0 Hockey East, 0-1-0 overall) to the Kohl Center and captured a 3-0 upset.

After an injury ended Zack Baun's 2017 season before it started and a disappointing 2018 season, the senior linebacker has played a central role in UW's top-ranked defense in 2019.

Badgers looking for depleted defense to step up against Michigan to keep season goals within reach

Following their 24-21 loss to BYU, T.J. Edwards and other Badgers players declared that all their preseason goals were still achievable and right there in front of them. Now, those goals will be put on the line Saturday night, as the No. 15 Wisconsin Badgers (2-0, 4-1) travel to Ann Arbor for a showdown with the No. 12 Michigan Wolverines (3-0, 5-1) under the lights.
