Wisconsin seeks Big Ten title in highly contested meet

After a regular season full of ups and downs including a Big Ten Record for sophomore Beata Nelson and the departure of one of their captains, the No. 21 Wisconsin women’s swim team is ready to put its last four months in the rearview mirror and move to the penultimate point of its season – the Big Ten championships. “It’s always an exciting time of the year because everyone’s always rested and ready to do some special things,” head coach Whitney Hite said.

Hutchins retires from competitive swimming

Twenty three-year-old Olympian and Wisconsin volunteer assistant coach Matthew Hutchins announced his retirement from competitive swimming on Wednesday through a statement to Swimming New Zealand. Hutchins enjoyed a highly successful college career as a Badger, twice placing in the top five nationally in the mile and owning four school records before exhausting his eligibility in spring 2017.

M.J. Mao will likely be pushed by Blair Bash of Missouri State in the breaststroke and individual medley events.

McCarthy, Nelson, Novinski shine in Big Ten Quad Duals In the first in-conference test of the season, the Wisconsin swim and dive team (1-6 men, 1-6 women) came out of the Big Ten Quad Duals in third place out of four, but achieved some crucial wins in the process. With the star of the women’s team, junior Cierra Runge, still nowhere to be found after missing her fourth straight meet, it was up to other Wisconsin swimmers to pick up the pieces.

After two straight losses in its home pool to top-10 teams, the RV/No. 18 Wisconsin swim and dive team (0-4 men, 0-4 women) is headed on the road to Minneapolis to take on three formidable Big Ten opponents during the Big Ten Quad Duals.

Todd McCarthy will play a big role for Wisconsin this year, and could be an X-factor in the meet against Georgia.
