Wisconsin picks up second conference victory with win over Illinois

It’s always a difficult task to win on the road, Big Ten or not. So it must have been a jubilant feeling in the locker room for the University of Wisconsin women’s basketball team ( 2-8 Big Ten, 9-14 overall) as they took down the University of Illinois Fighting Illini (0-9, 9-14) 70-61 in Champaign, Ill. The Badgers’ victory marks their first conference road-victory since March 1, 2015, when they took down the Penn State Nittany Lions 62-56 in State College, Pa.

Kendra Van Leeuwen contributed across the board as UW earned its first conference win of the season.

Wisconsin looks for first conference victory, major upset against Maryland

The Wisconsin women’s basketball team (0-3 Big Ten, 7-9) will welcome the No. 13 Maryland Terrapins (3-0, 14-2) into the Kohl Center Sunday at 2 p.m., hoping to stop a four game losing skid. It’s a tale of two different starts to conference play as Maryland has started out with two dominant performances and a nail bitting win against Penn State, while the Badgers have had a less than ideal start to conference play struggling in their first three contests to have offensive consistency. The Terrapins have the second best scoring offense in the Big Ten scoring 88 points per game and also lead the Big Ten in three-point field goal percentage at 39.1 percent.

Courtney Fredrickson tied a career-high with 18 points and set a career-high with 14 rebounds, but UW still fell to Minnesota.

Wisconsin loses to Purdue 57-35, needs improvement in the new year

As the final horn rang in Mackey Arena, the University of Wisconsin-Madison women’s basketball team (0-2 Big Ten, 7-8 overall) walked off the floor with a dismal 57-35 loss to the Purdue Boilermakers (1-1, 10-6) — along with a whole new list chocked full of New Year’s resolutions as they head into 2018. Improvements in offensive execution, overcoming scoring lapses, taking care of the ball and transition defense are at the top of the agenda for the Badgers, as the team looks on towards the second half of their season.

Wisconsin faces in-state rival Milwaukee with chance for eighth win

After aniliating Savannah State 82-24 on Sunday, Wisconsin (7-5) looks to continue to protect its home court Thursday night when it hosts Milwaukee (7-2). “You want to be prideful and protect your home court and we have done that in all except the Green Bay game,” head coach Jonathan Tsipis said. Throughout the beginning of the season, the Badgers have experienced both convincing wins and losses, but it is crucial for them to take what they have learned thus far and keep their energy up as they near the start of conference play. Milwaukee will pose a challenge for UW as Wisconsin will have to match up with a handful of skilled players.

Wisconsin annihilates Savannah State in 58-point victory

Simply dazzling. Or is dominating the right word? That’s about the only debate one can draw from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s 82-24 annihilation of Savannah State University Sunday night at the Kohl Center. The game really spoke for itself as the Badgers (7-5) clobbered the Lady Tigers (2-5) with grace and without mercy in record-breaking fashion.
