Biking Bad

As much as we love those men in uniform, Madison can't get enough of the jolly fellows patrolling the streets via pedals. Yes, Madison has a love for the diligent and forceful bike police who make it top priority to catch and ticket any criminals illegally zipping through Library Mall at record speeds. This safety squad is just one small portion of Madison's extreme efforts to create and uphold a more bike friendly city.

Humanities Building due for destruction

Oh, the Humanities Building. You are a massive block of concrete that houses the studies for which you are appropriately named. Since your completed construction in 1969, you have been a cold, lonely home to the studies of music, art, English, and history; all of which seem strangely out of place beneath your sunken temple walls (perhaps with the exclusion of history). Ever since the announcement of your imminent destruction, I have been absolutely enthralled. The Humanities Building at one time may have been a ground-breaking, conversational piece, but in today's current architectural climate it is a blotch upon our beautiful campus.

Carry-in policy missing point of security

The last time I paid to watch a sporting event was last summer to watch the Brewers play. One of the best things about Miller Park, despite the inflated prices, is the stadium always allowed fans to carry in whatever snacks they might have brought from home to enhance the experience. Fans' bags were inspected on arrival, and upon entrance attendants observing that Mr. and Mrs. Baseball-Fan had nothing more than peanuts and sunflower seeds in their bags, they were allowed in.

Environmental course could benefit freshmen

Within the last 20 years, the need for environmental awareness and the topic itself have grown significantly worldwide. Such a trend can be seen throughout the United States with the growth of alternative energy industries such as wind, hydro and biomass and a general spark of public interest in vital environmental issues such as global warming.
