Madison Common Council passed a resolution that honored former Madison Chief of Police Mike Koval on Tuesday.

In his quarterly report, MPD Chief Mike Koval highlighted an increase in gunshot incidents and heroin overdoses compared to the first quarter of 2017. 

Madison Mayor Paul Soglin said Saturday he might run for Wisconsin governor, after considering the success likeminded Sen. Bernie Sanders had in last year’s presidential primary.

The city will further discuss paying nearly $22,000 in legal fees accumulated by Madison Police Department Chief Mike Koval between Sept. 6, 2016 through March 15, 2017.

Madison Police Department Chief Mike Koval was cited for misconduct by the Police and Fire Commission Wednesday, after calling the grandmother of Tony Robinson—a teen shot and killed by an MPD officer in 2015—a “raging lunatic.”

Police Chief Mike Koval expressed Friday MPD’s discontent with the historic settlement reached in the Tony Robinson case last week, highlighting that it should not be seen as an “admission of guilt.”

Policy changes announced by MPD Chief Mike Koval on Monday reaffirm the department’s resistance to take part in federal immigration enforcement, except in cases of serious crimes related to public safety.
