Parquet Courts drop the ball on 'Monastic Living' EP

I am a huge rock ’n’ roll fan, always have been and always will be. It is the music that I grew up on and that I primarily listen to now. And because I am such a fan of the genre, I am usually up to listen to most songs that fall within the genre, but not every artist satisfies my musical taste. Such an example would be Parquet Courts’ new EP “Monastic Living.” I enjoy almost all types of music, since I believe that it is such an important expression in our culture; I did not enjoy “Monastic Living” to say the least.

Record Routine: The Nieghborhood feel 'Wiped Out!' on latest release

Whenever I hear anyone talk about The Neighbourhood, it’s usually talking about how they’re a more pretentious version of the Arctic Monkeys. Although some of their music might sound similar to the Arctic Monkeys, I believe that The Neighbourhood is a more talented band overall—but they are pretty pretentious. This can be seen in the first track of their latest album Wiped Out! which is titled “A Moment of Silence.” Yes, you can guess what this track is composed of; it’s 30 seconds of absolute silence. This unoriginality of the first track is the lowest point on Wiped Out!, which is unfortunate since it puts a rather sour taste in my mouth for the remainder of the album.

Obviously, albums from Drake, Kanye West and Frank Ocean—where is it Frank?—were on my list, but so was Raury. Earlier this year, Raury said that he would release his first album as a follow-up to his critically acclaimed mixtape, “Indigo Child.” Raury, a 19-year-old from an Atlanta suburb, made a grand entrance into the music scene when he released the artful and powerful music video to “Indigo Child” singles, “God’s Whisper.” He gained public notoriety, but also from figures inside the industry such as André 3000 and Kanye West.

Record Routine: Casey Veggies missteps his evolution on Live & Grow

Live & Grow is the solo debut album from California rapper Casey Veggies. The cover of the album depicts a play on the famed image of the Evolution of Man, depicting a kid growing up and changing into the current man that Veggies is today. However, the album lacks the true substance to back up this thesis that is presented through the album title and art.
