Dreads and a faded baseball T-shirt for the bass player, a long board to match the drummer's long hair, a stoic female vocalist and a slightly jaded but mostly optimistic guitarist. This is the Madison staple band Colorphase. A fusion of just about every musical style from the late ’60s to the early ’00s, this band looks to win people over with its diverse sound.
The local music mom-and-pop shop is dying and that’s a damn shame.
Recording a band with sub-par equipment isn't fun. You'd think I would remember this from that time I was in a ska band in high school, but Friday night I decided to try my hand at it again. Local boys Baristacide came out to The Daily Cardinal office and set up all of their gear, helped me out by finding a controller to run the mics through so I could get audio and played a set of pretty awesome pop-punk-for-people-who-hate-pop-punk. After seven songs and a few minor technical issues, we ended up with more than enough for a good session.
If you were to ask around the Cardinal office you'd find out that electronic music is normally the bane of my existence. It's not that I don't consider it music, I just prefer the full band sound.
